What Are The Most Expensive Airplane Model Kits Available Today?

B-17 Flying Fortress in scale 1:32

1:32 scale plastic model airplanes tend to be more expensive than smaller scales. Undoubtedly one of the most expensive and large plastic scale model airplanes is the HK 1:32 B-17G Flying Fortress. See here the model for sale.

The model sells for $345.00. This is a massive scale model airplane. Amazingly the model only has 577 parts, so it shouldn’t be that difficult to build. Before buying this model you should consider where and how you are going to display it. Its wingspan is approximately 1 meter.

Monogram B-29 on scale 1:48

Another expensive model is the Revell 1:48 B-29 Superfortress, selling for around $189.95. You can view here a sample of this model I built several years ago and a detailed explanation including photos and videos. I modified the model by adding electric motors and interior LED lights, LED navigation lights, wire antennas, and some sections of the fuselage were covered with aluminum foil. It took me about six months to complete the model. The model is available for sale here.

This model of the B-29 has a detailed bomb bay and bomb load, detailed interior, and cockpit. All gun turrets rotate. The quality of the kit is fairly good.

Tupolev Tu-114

This is also an impressive and expensive model: With its four propellers, the Amodel Tupolev Tu-114 in scale 1:72 is a large model even at this scale. See here the model for sale. The model sells for $332.99.
